before microscopes people thought diseases were caused by curses and spirits. when scientists started using microscopes they entered a whole new world of micro-organisms .The very first person to record looking at water through the microscope was anton van leeuwenhoek.The microscope he used was a simple light microscope that had one lens and used natural light. The electron microscope was then invented in the 1940s the microscope can magnify objects up to 500 000 times there size.There was two main electron microscopes the scanning electron microscope and the transmission electron microscope. The cell theory was that cells are the basic building blocks of all living things. There are two basic cells the prokaryotic cell and the eukaryotic cell. The prokaryotic cell was a cell that did not contain membrane bound structures. The eukaryotic cell was a cell containing membrane bound structure.The structures within the cell are called organelles each one has a main part that contributes to cell survival.
